Sedation

Ewan Davidson BDS DPDS

If the sight of needles, or the smells, sounds and tastes associated with many dental procedures, makes you want to run for the nearest exit, sedation dentistry may be just what you need to get you back into the dentist’s chair.

Sedation dentistry, otherwise known as conscious sedation, is not only for those who are nervous about dental procedures. It also helps patients who have difficulty controlling their gag-reflex, who experience pain because of sensitive teeth, or who do not respond well to numbing medications.

Another consideration is that it allows your dentist to perform several procedures in just one appointment.

Conscious Sedation is very safe and is offered here by dental surgeon, Ewan Davidson, who has 6 years experience in practicing this method of anaesthesia.

The technique uses a sedative drug, administered intravenously, that depresses the central nervous system enough to make you feel relaxed and calm, but not enough to render you unconscious. You will still retain your reflexes and be able to respond to verbal commands.

The effect of the sedative will gradually wear off over the course of the day. Patients coming for conscious sedation are required to be accompanied by an adult escort who will then take them home and care them for the rest of the day.

Full written instructions are given to patients when booking the appointment.
