CEREC - For completely natural crowns in one appointment

We've just taken on one of the most advanced systems in dentistry, the CEREC restoration system, a 'chairside crown-maker' which allows dentists to mill perfectly fitting ceramic crowns in surgery.

This means that we can now design, produce and fit a new crown, veneer, onlay or inlay in a single visit, rather than waiting for two weeks.

What's more, the quality is by no means compromised, in fact we have been extremely impressed with quality of the work we have produced and the naturalness in colour and texture of the crowns.   This is backed up by long term clinical data collected over the last 25 years (since the CEREC procedure was originally developed in Zurich University).

What is CEREC?

CEREC is a sophisticated CAD/CAM system for the production of ceramic crowns for both anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth.   We have the very latest CEREC development, the brand new ‘blue cam’ technology.

The crowns produced by CEREC have a highly aesthetic appearance, and are the closest you can get to a natural tooth enamel.

Long term clinical studies demonstrate that - in terms of durability - CEREC restorations are at least equivalent to gold restorations, and usually better.

Other advantages to crowns made with Cerec are:

  • They are completely metal free
  • They are very durable and long lasting
  • They have extremely low allergenic potential
  • There is no visible crown margins around the gums and therefore look completely natural
  • No impressions, temporaries or long waiting periods
  • Beautiful teeth in one single visit

No impressions

The CEREC 3D measuring camera scans the prepared tooth in just a few minutes.  This eliminates the need for unpleasant silicone impressions.

No temporaries

CEREC restorations are milled out of a solid ceramic block in just a few minutes.  They are then ready to be placed immediately.

This eliminates the need for temporary fillings and crowns.  It also means that you need only one appointment.  And you don't have to wait for days on end until the ceramic filling is finished.

No long waiting periods

Because CEREC restorations can be placed immediately, you need only one appointment.

The CEREC procedure

After removing the decayed tissue or the defective filling, we create a 3D image of the tooth with the aid of the CEREC camera.

  • The restoration is designed on the monitor of the CEREC acquisition unit at the chairside
  • The design is then digitally transferred to the CEREC milling unit in another room, which then machines the restoration out of a ceramic block.
  • These ceramic blocks come in a very wide range of shades to closely match the colour of your own teeth.
  • The milled restoration is bonded directly to your tooth.

Are they more expensive than conventional crowns?

Not at all, in many cases they can be cheaper.  The price for a crown or an inlay is £350 to £400.
